Licensing Requirements for the State of Utah

Low-Voltage/Limited-Energy License: A statewide license is required for the Alarm Business or Company.

Low Voltage Specialty Licenses:
Fire Alarm Planning Superintendent
Fire Alarm Monitoring Technician
Residential Fire Alarm Superintendent
Alarm System Company Installer
Alarm System Company Monitor
Alarm System Technician

Electrician: A statewide electrician license is required.

Electrical Contractor: A statewide electrical contractors license is required.

Additional Information:
License is required to install and monitor a security system. License is also required of all sales persons and employees having access to alarm information.

Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing Act Title 58, Chapter 1 of the Utah Code Annotated 1953 as amended by Session Laws of Utah 1999.

58-1-302. License by endorsement
The Division may issue a license without examination to a person who has been licensed in any state, district or territory of the United States or in any foreign country, whose education, experience and examination requirements are, or were at the time the license was issued, equal to those of this state. Before any person may be issued a license under this section, he shall produce satisfactory evidence of his qualifications, identity, and good standing in his occupation or profession.

58-63-601 prohibits political subdivisions of the state from licensing, training or regulating contract security companies and unarmed private security officers.
