Licensing Requirements for the State of Tennessee

Low-Voltage/Limited-Energy License: A statewide license is required for certain types of low-voltage systems. Fire Detection Systems, Signal and Burglar Alarm Systems, and Security Systems with conduit and wiring above seventy (70) volts require an electrical exam.

License Type: E- Electrical Contracting including electrical transmission lines, sound and intercom systems, fire detection systems, burglar alarm systems, and electrical temperature controls (if the alarm systems work done by an electrical contractor accounts for less than 50% of total business, then an alarm system contractor license is not needed).

Limited Licensed Electrician: Any person or entity that performs any electrical work that has a total cost of $25,000 or less.
