Licensing Requirements for the State of South Carolina

Low-Voltage/Limited-Energy License: A statewide license is required for certain types of low-voltage systems.

Low Voltage Specialty Licenses:
Burglar/Alarm
Fire Alarm


Electrician: A statewide electrician license is required.

Electrical Contractor: A statewide electrical contractors license is required for work at 600 volts or less.

Additional Information:
License is required for installation of a security system. Section 40-79-310 provides an exemption for: (i) an entity that owns and installs an alarm system on property owned or leased for itself; and (ii) anyone that responds to burglar alarm or fire alarm systems.
