Licensing Requirements for the State of Massachusetts

Low-Voltage/Limited-Energy License: In addition to being licensed as an electrical contractor or electrician, you may also be required to have a state systems contractor or systems technician license for Fire Alarm, Burglar and Telephone systems.

Low Voltage Specialty Licenses:
Systems Contractor (include fire warning and security): Class C
Systems Technician (include fire warning and security): Class D

Electrician: A statewide electrician license is required.

Electrical Contractor: A statewide electrical contractors license is required.

Additional Information:
License is required for installation of a security system. Section 237 CMR 18.01 places significant record-keeping requirements on any "person firm or corporation engaging in or working at the business of installing wires, conduits…..for carrying electricity for…security system purposes."

Class "c" license issued after applicant has obtained a class "d" systems technician license which requires 300 hrs of board approved education. Class "c" license requires completion of 75 hour advanced system technology & business course
