Licensing Requirements for the State of Louisiana

Low-Voltage/Limited-Energy License: Louisiana law states that no person may engage in alarm contracting without holding a valid license issued by the fire marshal. No other statewide license is required for low-voltage electricians.

Low Voltage Specialty Licenses:
Fire Detection and Alarm: Class D
Fire Detection and Alarm Non-Required Fire Alarm: Class D-1

Electrician: A statewide electrician license is not required.

Electrical Contractor: A statewide electrical contractors license is required for commercial projects.

Additional Information:
Burglar Alarm Companies and employees must be licensed. "Alarm Contracting Companies" must hold Type A License. Any individual or entity performing installation, maintenance, servicing or performance of any related task in exchange for compensation requires a license.

Electronic protective system companies for Burglar Alarm, CCTV & Access Control must be physically located in the state of Louisiana in order to be licensed.
Monitoring License Required: YES

Monitoring license is only required for in-state companies.

As of 10/02/08 Central Station's are required to obtain a license with the LA State Fire Marshal if the CS has the ability and approved access to log into the security/fire panel for any reason including programming, user code additions/deletions etc. (Per Boyd Petty - LASFM Licensing Mgr)
