Default Problem with bad equipment

I recently purchased a used Fire-Lite MS-5012 system... and it did not come with any accessories. I did manage to install it... it occasionally loses resettable power and all my smokes go dead. I get a trouble every time this happens. Today the transformer is going out, because I get brownout warnings from the indicators. I don't have a backup battery at the moment, so it will have to wait. My circuit breaker occasionally has tripped unexpectedly.... I believe the GFCI has something to do with it. I used 18 gauge stranded aluminum wire (the stuff you buy at RadioShack) to make all connections. For some reason, I do get intermittent troubles (could it be the splices?)... The splices I did not solder, but I taped them so firmly that I believe they will hold for quite some time. The EOL resistors I also picked up on that handy trip to RadioShack.

I'm really lost on this one, and now I have little to no fire protection. Does anyone have any advice? I can't talk with my fire marshal anymore... I don't think he would take kindly to this....

I'm not familiar with FireLite but I would connect a battery before anything else.

It's completely okay.

That just shows how nice and unwilling to yell people on this forum are... even though I was begging for it.

Ohhh yeah... this was a joke alright...

Sadly, sometimes this type of thing is not a joke. If less people actually did installs like this, we might have less deaths from fires.

I've seen worse than what you described. It never occurred to me to check the date of your post. Oh, well.

The muscle relaxers I was taking because of spine surgery probably didn't help either. :turned:

Cervical discectomy and fusion due to disc pressure on my spinal cord. I'm getting a thoracic discectomy and fusion in another 2 weeks. I've got a nice Frankenstein scar on my neck now.

Good luck with your back... injuries are no fun at all, which unfortunately I have learned the hard way many times.
